I think I've been scammed

Do these now, in this order. No sign-up, no cost.

How the “I’ve been scammed” guide works
  1. Do the five steps in order. Stop sending, cut contact, secure what’s left, save everything, report it.
  2. Report it. Your exchange (through its official app only), the FBI at ic3.gov, the FTC and your local police.
  3. Beware the second scam. Anyone who contacts you offering to recover your crypto for a fee is almost certainly scamming you again.
  • This guide is free for everyone. No sign-up needed, so you can share it with anyone.
  • Members also get the report builder: it fills in your timeline and gets your reports ready to file.
  1. Stop sending. Don't pay any "fee", "tax" or "unlock" charge. That's the scam continuing.
  2. Cut contact. Don't reply, don't install anything, don't share your screen.
  3. Secure what's left. Change your exchange and email passwords from a clean device. If a wallet's recovery phrase was shared, move what's left to a new wallet.
  4. Save everything. Screenshots, wallet addresses, transaction IDs, usernames, dates.
  5. Report it. Your exchange, the FBI at ic3.gov, and the FTC.

Anyone who contacts you offering to recover your crypto for a fee is almost certainly running a second scam.

Where to report it

  • Your exchange or wallet company: through its official app or website only. Never through a number or link someone sent you.
  • FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center: ic3.gov
  • Federal Trade Commission: reportfraud.ftc.gov
  • Local police: ask for a report number. Exchanges and insurers may ask for it.

If money has already left your account, the steps above matter more than anything else. Most stolen crypto cannot be reversed, which is exactly why recovery scammers target victims next: no legitimate service charges an upfront fee to get your crypto back.
